Artist's Statement
Boofheads and Scrubbers can be described as an ongoing theme and underscores of my work. My career has been a preoccupation with edgy subject matter. This fascination and exploration is of both the people who exist in and the energy of the environment where detritus objects are found, and the objects themselves. This work links my fantasies with the fantasies of those who view my art. By finding and placing these objects on board or as standalone sculptures, I create a way in which the viewers can become a post voyeur.
Voyeurism is no longer just an urge to see what is not rightfully yours, but its adrenalin, felt by the voyeur is reconstructed and rehumanised by my work. Although these objects leave a hint of history of their own, and have been handled by me, the fantasy surrounding these objects, once viewed, belongs to the voyeur. Yet because of their very nature, these objects are charged with political, sexual and emotional commentary from me, as well as from its former owner
Robert Young exhibits his work along with other fearsome, provocative and even irritating work with his contemporaries: Brook Andrew, Cecily Briggs, Michael Butler, Adam Cullen, Karen Coull, Cherry Hood, Michael Kempson, Michael Lindeman, Raquel Ormella, Eugenia Raskopoulos, Tony Schwensen, Steve Smith, Regina Walter, and Justene Williams.
